Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Does my Polo have to have the new crest/logo? Yes, this is the EXPECTATION (REQUIREMENT).
2. When can I wear my Garvey/Allen Merch or House Shirt? Great question! Garvey/Allen Merch can ONLY be worn every THURSDAY. House Shirts can ONLY be worn every FRIDAY. If wearing a T-shirt, Crewneck or Hoodie, uniform bottoms MUST be worn. NO JEANS, JEGGINGS, BIKER SHORTS, or STRETCH PANTS are allowed. 
3. What days do I have to wear my Polo shirt with logo/crest? The EXPECTATION (REQUIREMENT) is that Polo shirts are worn every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with NO EXCEPTIONS.
4. What kind of outerwear (hoodie, jacket, sweater) can I wear at Garvey/Allen? The  EXPECTATION (REQUIREMENT) is that ONLY outerwear sold by Garvey/Allen may be worn -OR- plain Black, White, or Yellow with no design, designer name, etc.
5. What kind of shoes can I wear at Garvey/Allen? We love this question because we are a sneakerhead Academy!! Achievers may wear any tennis shoes/sneakers of their choice (including any color). Achievers may also wear Black, Yellow/Gold, or White CROCS that has a strap (NO SLIPPERS) and school appropriate Jiblets. Achievers are also allowed to wear Foam Runners that are completely  enclosed. Achievers CANNOT wear, open toe shoes of any kind, flip flops, high heels, Yezzy Slides, Slides of any kind, or shoes with rollers on the bottom. 
6. Do I have to wear a belt? Yes, if your pants or shorts fall below your waist. There is NO SAGGING at Garvey/Allen. Belts must be school appropriate with no vulgar wording or image(s).
7. Do we have FREE DRESS DAYS? NO, Garvey/Allen does not have FREE DRESS DAYS. Instead, Achievers have Theme Dress Days for Spirit Week & Achievers are allowed to participate or wear their school uniform. Superintendent Gilmore does reward Achievers with FREE DRESS DAYS throughout the school year if behavior & 100% of Achievers are following the EXPECTED (REQUIRED) Uniform Policy. 
8. What happens if I do not meet the EXPECTATIONS (REQUIREMENTS) of the Garvey/Allen Uniform Policy? Well this should NEVER happen. However, if the uniform is not worn or not worn properly, parents/gaurdians will be called to bring the appropriate uniform to the school & the Achiever will remain in the Main Office. In the event that the parent/gaurdian cannot return the uniform item within 30 minutes, the Achiever will be given a LOANER uniform (usually with the old crest) & expected to wash it and return it the following day. Other disciplinary action will take place- from detention up to a Behavior Contract. 
9. Do Lady Black Hawks (girls) have to wear plaid uniform bottoms? YES, this is the EXPECTATION (REQUIREMENT). Lady Black Hawks have the choice of plaid pants, skirt, shorts, or skorts. These can be bought IN PERSON at Hilda's Uniforms in Compton or ONLINE at Young's Fashions. As an option, Black pleated skirts, shorts, of skorts may be worn. All items MUST be at an appropriate length according to height and fit of each young lady (girls should be able to stand straight, arms by their side, and the skirt, skort, or shorts be NO SHORTER than their middle fingertips). 
10. Where do we purchase the Black uniform pieces from? To make this easier for our families, Amazon, JC Penneys, Walmart or Target are all great affordable choices (Hilda's is also an option). However, ensure that the correct type of material and style is chosen (see complete uniform policy for pictures). NO JEANS, JEGGINGS, BIKER SHORTS, or STRETCH PANTS are allowed. Khakis or Dickies are the EXPECTED (REQUIRED) type of uniform to be worn. NO EXCEPTIONS!
11. When will I know what House I am in if I am new to Garvey/Allen, so I can purchase my House Shirt? Achiever Sorting Day will happen by the 2nd week of the start of the school year. When buying the bundle, your shirt will automatically be reserved for you. Please ensure we have your Achiever's T-shirt size. 
12. How many Polo Shirts should I purchase? This is totally up to you but we recommend 3 to 4. And encourage making new shirt purchases of Polo shirts as Achievers grow and/or shirts become visibly worn.
13. Can I purchase Polos IN PERSON at the Village Market & can I make an exchange or receive a refund? This really depends on our available stock inside the Village Market. Unfortunately, we CANNOT ALLOW exchanges or refunds for ANY reason. 
14. Where can I purchase the Garvey/Allen Merch? You are in the right place! As new Garvey/Allen Merch becomes available, we will release those items HERE. So, check back often.
15. Is there a deadline to order Polos and when will we receive them? Yes, the first deadline is 11:59pm on June 30th. Meeeting this deadline will ensure your order is ready well before school resumes for the upcoming school year.
